Our Story
Psytech's founder, Laurence Paltiel, became interested in computerised testing as an undergraduate. While completing his Master's degree he produced one of the first computerised interpretations for the 16PF questionnaire.
1984
He established Psyconsult in 1984, with the company focussing on developing assessment software to produce interpretive reports for a wide range of industry standard tests. Recognising the potential of computerised assessment, Psyconsult then embarked on a research programme aimed at extending the functionality of the software to include the administration, scoring and norming of tests and job profiling.
In 1987, Psyconsult were acquired by Manpower to further develop computerised assessment technologies and to make these available to the international market. Reorganisation and changes in company focus resulted in Laurence Paltiel setting up Psytech International in 1990 with the aim of continuing to develop computerised testing. This required the development of a new generation of tests that were specifically designed to be administered, scored and interpreted by computer.
1987
1997
The first five years of Psytech focussed on software and test development culminating in a portfolio of over twenty tests that were fully integrated in the GeneSys Assessment system. In 1997 Psytech embarked on a research programme to develop an alternative to the 16PF5. Given the international backgrounds of the research team members, there was a commitment from the very outset to develop a test that could be readily adapted for use in different languages and cultures. Since then the 15FQ+ has become one of the most widely used work-place personality tests. The Psytech range of tests have now been adapted for use in a range of cultures and languages as diverse as Italian, Chinese, Russian, Arabic and Indonesian.
Innovation continues to be the force driving Psytech's product development, with a recent release of the first fully supervised remote testing administration system; iSupervise. Psytech are in the final stages of developing a fully computer-adaptive reasoning test battery using item response theory. Future developments include computerised assessment centre exercises, job-analysis and adaptive personality tests.
